In Korea, showing a goofy / nonsensical side of yourself is considered sort of “rite of passage”. The purpose of this activity is to show off to viewers that even the gorgeous people on TV are capable of making mistakes and looking stupid. SNSD's Yoona did it recently; it was only a matter of time before others followed.
Big Bang’s “embarrassing” pictures have become a hot issue on the Internet. The five members were on the SBS show “Julchin Note”, and during a section called “Tah-Jjang” where the guests have to do comical sketches, the boys went all out to make their audience laugh. G-dragon looks like an ajusshi with his balding head and blocked-out teeth, T.O.P. looks damn hideous with his face pulled back by a blue swimming cap, Tae Yang sports vampire teeth a’la Twilight, Seung Ri has his eyeballs springing out, and Dae Sung has a curly white wig, an eyeglass-and-nose mask and a mustache (a mix of Albert Einstein and Mario Brothers).
On the same show, T.O.P. G-Dragon and Tae Yang ‘perfectly’ recreated the performance of Seo Taiji & Boys’ (who are their sunbaes as YG of YG Entertainment was once a member) “Girl of My Fantasy” while Dae Sung and Seung Ri sang Country Kko Kko’s “Gimme Gimme”. They donned similar costumes to the original and received a hearty applause from the MC, ex-H.O.T. member Moon Hee-Jun, who said he felt nostalgic about the old days.
This episode airs on the 20th.
